KARACHI, June 12: A pedestrian was shot dead on Tuesday evening soon after the victim of an early morning attack in the Kharadar area was identified as a member of the Kuchhi Rabita Committee, police said.

Tension spread in the old city areas that reverberated with gunfire following the identification of the deceased as Moosa Soomro, a KRC member and resident of Agra Taj Colony, by his family at the Edhi morgue.

“His body was found behind Jamaat Khana,” said an official at the Baghdadi police station. He added that the victim was trussed up before being shot in the head.

The police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. After a post-mortem examination, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

In the evening, his family visited the morgue and identified his body, the police said, adding that the family brought the body to their home in Agra Taj Colony.

Soon afterwards, tension gripped the areas of Moosa Lane, Khadda Market and its surroundings as firing compelled traders to pull down shutters and residents to stay indoors.

During the firing, a pedestrian, identified as Amjad Baloch, was killed within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

The officials said that he sustained a gunshot wound to his head and died on the spot. The victim’s body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
