KARACHI, May 16: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) field office in Karachi organised a day-long free eye camp in collaboration with the Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) at Deh Songal, Gadap Town, Malir district on Wednesday.

A press statement issued by the field office said that the camp was meant for less privileged refugees living in Gadap Town.  A total of 91 men, women and children were provided free consultation, examination and treatment for eye problems at the camp, managed by doctors from the PEBS Karachi chapter, it said.

The event was the first step towards providing eye care facility to refugees and more such camps would be held in future, said Sharjil Kharal, head of the UNHCR Karachi field office.
