ISLAMABAD: Pakistani legspinner Danish Kaneria has pleaded not guilty to the corruption charges leveled by the England and Wales Cricket Board in a letter from his lawyer and sought more time to respond to the accusations.
Kaneria was accused in a British court in February of pressuring former Essex teammate Melvyn Westfield into spot-fixing a match. Westfield pleaded guilty and was jailed for four months.
Last week, the ECB notified Kaneria and Westfield they are being charged and formed a disciplinary panel led by barrister Gerard Elias.
Kaneria's lawyer, Farogh Naseem, wrote to Elias asking for an extension to May 10 to ''provide Mr. Kaneria's defense and supporting evidence'' after which ''the disciplinary hearing may be scheduled.''
