LAHORE, Feb 22: People faced a great deal of inconvenience on Wednesday as employees of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) continued their strike on the second consecutive day for the acceptance of their demand.

Nadra employees have been observing the strike across the country to press the government to regularise their services.

“Our demand is genuine and the federal government should regularise our services,” an employee said.

The authorities concerned, instead of giving any assurance to employees, have sought applications against the posts of those observing the strike.

The people visiting the Nadra offices faced not only inconvenience but also got worried about the fate of their educational, business and other plans likely to be delayed for want of basic identity documents issued by the Nadra.

“I have come here to get issued a B-form for my child but all employees are on strike,” said Muhammad Saif on Peco Road, Kot Lakhpat, Nadra office.

Latif Ahmad said he had to go for Umrah and needed the renewal of his CNIC for the issuance of a passport. “This is very disturbing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nadra officials said the executive offices would be opened from Thursday to facilitate the general public.

GUJRANWALA: The pen-down strike by Nadra employees continued in the city and towns.

Employees stayed away from their seats and boycotted the office routine work. They pledged to continue their strike till the regularisation of their services.

SIALKOT: Employees of Nadra closed their offices in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur, Chawinda and Badiana and observed a complete strike.

The protesting employees wore black armbands and also staged sit-ins in front of their locked offices.

The worst sufferers were a large number of people who had to return disappointed for the second day running without getting their CNICs, Form-B, etc.

SHEIKHUPURA: Nadra offices in both Sheikhupura and Nankana districts also remained closed.

About 200 employees working in Sheikhupura, Nankana, Ferozewala, Mananwala and Sangla offices boycotted their routine work to press the government for the acceptance of their demand.

Nadra Employees Welfare Union President Sohail Ahmad said the strike would continue until all employees were regularised.
