KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Friday said Mohsin Khan will continue as interim coach for this month's tour of Bangladesh as a permanent replacement for Waqar Younis is yet to be finalised.

Former fast bowler Waqar quit the post citing health problems after the tour of Zimbabwe in September and Khan was appointed for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.

The PCB set up a three-member committee to find a replacement for Waqar but despite short-listing five candidates last month the matter is yet to be settled.

“Pakistan team will be touring Bangladesh to play a series of Tests, one-day and a T20 matches and since no team coach has been appointed Khan will continue as coach on the tour,” the board said in a statement.

Khan, 56, a former opener, is also Pakistan's chief selector.

Pakistan, currently playing a five-match one-day series against Sri Lanka, will open the tour of Bangladesh with a Twenty20 match on November 29.

Pakistan also play three one-day matches and two Tests on the tour. Before the one-day series against Sri Lanka started, Khan said he wanted to continue as coach.

“I am ready for any service my country needs from me, but it's up to the PCB and I will decide once an offer is made,” Khan said.

The head of the committee to find a new coach, Intikhab Alam, has said Pakistan will definitely make the appointment before the important series against England in the UAE early next year.

Pakistan play three Tests, four one-day and three Twenty20 matches against England, who are ranked number one in the world in the five-day format of the game.
