Reshma performs in London

LONDON, Oct 20: Reshma, a renowned folk singer, sang some of her rare songs and won accolades from a packed hall of Pakistani expatriates at Brunei Gallery here on Saturday.

The Ghazal-evening with Reshma was organized by the Pakistan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Abdul Kader Jaffer, and Mrs Nargis Jaffer to honour the artiste, providing the Pakistanis an opportunity to listen to her songs.

Reshma began singing in 1965 when she was barely 16 and rose to prominence by her mastery of folk music. She also received the President’s Pride of Performance award.

As she began singing her hits, like her Qawwali “Shehbaz Qalandar”, the audience immersed in the folk music.

Folk music was something which refreshed memories of the country, said a music lover.

Reshma showed her mastery of the music tunes by accepting the demands made by the audience for singing songs or Ghazals of their choice.

“Folk music has its own charm and will continue to last despite coming into vogue of pop music,” she told APP.
