LAHORE: A courageous display from nine-man NBP saw them hold Pakistan Navy for a 1-1 draw in the Pakistan Premier Football League at Karachi’s Peoples Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Navy were the first to settle down but were unable to convert their chances in the first ten minutes of the match.

NBP then scored the opening goal against the run of play when Navy’s Muhammad Ramzan for handled the ball 18th minute and gave away a penalty. Pakistan international Abdul Aziz converted from the spot to put the bankers ahead, a lead they maintained until half-time.

The second half saw a stronger attack from Navy and substitute Muhammad Basharat scored three minutes into the half. NBP went down to nine men in the closing stages the match when midfielder Wasim Qadir, and defender Muhammad Ashraf were sent off in the 62nd and 76th minute respectively. However, they held on for the last 14 minutes to eke out a draw.

Navy now have 42 points in the league from their 28 matches. Meanwhile, Pakistan Wapda have already clinched the league title with 67 points from their 27 matches. Pakistan Army are placed third, with 52 points, followed by KESC and KRL, who are tied for the fourth spot with 51 points. In the day’s other match, PIA were granted a walkover win against Afghan FC, who failed to turn up for the tie at the KPT-Benazir Sports Complex in Karachi.

PIA were gifted a 3-0 win over the Chaman-based team, who were penalised for not showing up for the match at the scheduled start time.
