SUKKUR, Sept 16: A meeting to review the arrangements in connection with the forthcoming general elections was held at the Circuit House here on Monday.

It was held under the chairmanship of the district and sessions judge, Zaheeruddin Leghari, who is also the district returning officer, Sukkur.

He said that arrangements have been made to have the election staff trained by the United Nations teams.

He asked the heads of all departments to strictly direct their subordinate staff to perform their election duties with dedication, devotion and nationalspirit.

Mr Leghari directed the EDO (Health) to ensure that the doctors did not issue fake certificates to employees who were deployed on election duties and if any doctor was found guilty of doing so he would be severely dealt with.

He directed the heads of various nation-building departments to ensure attendance of their staff at the training programme.

He informed that separate training arrangements for male and female staff have been made, and pick and drop services would be provided to them so that they could perform their duties efficiently.

He said that officials having medical certificates regarding diabetic and heart ailments should be referred to the civil surgeon for verification.

The meeting was informed that polling stations should be installed at a distance of 400 yards from police stations so that law and order could be maintained easily.

It discussed in detail all necessary arrangements regarding the holding of elections in a free and fair manner.

The DCO, Din M. Baloch, advised all heads of civic departments to ensure that the polling stations were provided clean water and the power was never cut off.

He informed that all security arrangements had been finalized for the forthcoming general elections.

PPP candidate: The PPP candidate for NA-200 Ghotki seat, Sardar Khalid Lund, has accused Sindh PPP president Nisar Khuhro and Khursheed Shah of destroying the party in the province.

Talking at a press conference in his home town Khalidabad on Monday, he accused the two Pakistan People’s Party leaders of pursuing policies due to which the party was now in disarray.

He said that there was no discipline in the PPP and the party ticket had become a liability for him therefore he had decided to return the ticket and contest the election on his own.

Khalid said that he would consult his legal aides to seek their advice about his decision to contest the polls independently.

Terming the announcement of return of the party ticket by the PPP candidate for NA-201 Ghotki seat, Sardar Ali Mohammad Mehar, a drama, he claimed that Maher’s decision had the support of the party leadership.
