SRINAGAR, July 28: Freedom fighters killed four civilians in Kashmir as Indian troops gunned down an equal number of Mujahideen in the Valley, a police spokesman said here on Sunday.

He said all the four civilians killed by the freedom fight-

ers were Muslims and added that they were murdered late on Saturday in two attacks.

Indian troops shot dead two Mujahideen overnight in Kupwara, the spokesman said.

Two more Kashmiris were killed elsewhere in the Valley.

ARMS CACHE: The Indian army said on Sunday it had discovered a major arms cache in Kashmir with nearly 540 grenades that were meant to be used to disrupt India’s independence day or state elections this year.

The arms dump, which included 240 hand grenades and 296 rifle grenades, belonged to Lashkar-i-Taiba, an army spokesman said.

The cache was discovered overnight in the village of Boban near Hardwara township, 85 kilometers north of Srinagar, the spokesman said.—AFP
