Indian attempts to fence foiled

SIALKOT, April 20: The Chenab Rangers foiled two more major Indian attempts to fence Jammu and Saamba sectors of the Sialkot working boundary early on Saturday morning.

Official sources confirmed that the Indian forces continued intensified firing on villages in Chhumb Joriyaan (Gujrat), Bajwat, Charwa, Harpal, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Akhnoor, Jammu, Saamba and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors of the Sialkot working boundary, badly disrupting the sowing of seasonal crops.

No causality has been reported yet.

POLLING STATIONS: Over 1,967 polling stations will be set up in the district for April 30 referendum.

This was explained at a meeting, held here on Saturday to review the referendum arrangements.

It was presided over by Sialkot’s District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Zahur Abbasi who is also assistant returning officer. DCO Capt Zahid Saeed (retired), SSP Mohammad Tahir, DDO revenue Amar Ejaz Akbar, Assistant Election Officer Muhammad Umar, ADLG Muhammad Qasim and DDO (elementary education) were among the participants.

Zahur Abbasi informed the meeting that 46 additional polling stations would be set up. Polling stations would be established at DHQ and THQ hospitals at Daska and Pasrur; at different petrol pumps and other important localities.

The polling will continue from 9am to 7pm.
