LAHORE, May 13: Opposition parties in Punjab observed Sunday as a ‘black day’, condemning elements responsible for the killing of more than 36 people in Karachi on Saturday.

They have already given a call for a countrywide strike on Monday to protest the killings. Lawyers will also boycott courts. Trade bodies in several cities have also backed the strike call.

Leaders of PPP, the PML-N, the MMA, Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Awami National Party and the Khaksar Tehrik called for action against the 'killers'. The Punjab leadership of MMA has convened a multi-party conference where the PPP would also be invited.

In their meetings and rallies, they held the Sindh government responsible for the situation that led to the loss of lives, and said the governor, the chief minister and other high-ups should be held accountable.
