PESHAWAR, Dec 28: With the election of naib nazims of district, tehsil and town councils, the fourth and final phase of the local governments in all the 24 districts of Frontier province was completed on Wednesday. The election was conducted through the show of hands.

According to unofficial results, Razaullah, a joint candidate of PPP, PPP (Sherpao) and JUI (F), was elected as Peshawar naib nazim. He got 71 votes against his opponent Sardar Alam of the ANP-JI alliance, who secured 55 votes.

In three of the four town councils of Peshawar, the ANP-JI alliance regained the lost ground and won three seats. Niaz Mohmand grabbed Town-I naib nazim slot, Israrullah advocate Town- II, Town-IV Malik Amanullah, while the contest was tied in the Town-III.

In Charsadda district, the ANP-JI backed candidate Farman Khan defeated Dr Elahi Jan of PPP (Sherpao) and JUI (F). Mr Farman bagged 38 votes.

Nowshera: There was one-to-one contest between JUI (F) and JI for the slot of district naib nazim. Dr Gohar Ali of JUI (F) defeated Payo Gul of JI. As many as 24 union nazims and councillors remained absent.

Mardan: ANP-JI-PML (N) backed candidate Ibrahim Biland was elected as naib nazim. He defeated Sikandar Hayat of PPP-JUI (F). About 10 members did not take part in the voting.

One of the two tehsils of Mardan, Takhtbhai was also won by the ANP-JI-PML (N) candidate, while in Mardan tehsil Asif Khan of the JUI (F)-PPP alliance was declared elected.

Kohat: Zakria Khan, nazim of union council Shakardarra, was elected as tehsil naib nazim by defeating Iftikhar Khan who was supported by Awami National Party.

Arif advocate has already been elected as Kohat naib nazim unopposed.

Dera Ismail Khan: JUI(F)-backed Muttahida group swept the elections. Its candidate for the district naib nazim slot Abdur Rashid Dhab polled 42 votes against his opponent Mumtaz Miankhel, who got 23 votes.

Bannu: Muttahida group candidate Fakharuddin advocate was elected unopposed, while its candidate for Town-I Musharraf Alamgir and Town-II Noor Daraz were also elected unopposed.

Lakki Marwat district council: Saifullah-Anwar Kamal group backed candidate Qudratullah defeated Maulana Asghar Ali of JUI (F), PML (N) and ex-MNA Kabir Khan group. Qudratullah got 33 votes against Maulana Asghar Ali, who polled 13 votes.

Mastuj tehsil of Chitral district: Mirza Alam defeated Kashafat Younis of the Chitral Dost group by 9 to 5 votes, while Sultan Shah and Sardar Hussain have already been elected unopposed as district naib nazim and Chitral tehsil naib nazim, respectively.

Swabi: Swabi Jamhoori Ittehad backed candidate Saeed Zada captured the district naib nazim slot, while the Swabi tehsil naib nazim seat was secured by Shamsul Qamar. He defeated Naeem Khan of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz. The result of Chota Lahor tehsil was decided through a toss as the contest remained tied with 11 votes polled by the two contestants. The seat went to Mohammad Shakeel of Swabi Jamhoori Ittehad.

Haripur: Maj (retd) Safdar Zaman of PML (N) was elected unopposed as district naib nazim. In Tehsil Ghazi, Qamar Zaman of PML (Q) and in Haripur Tehsil Syed Ihsan Shah, an independent candidate, were elected as naib nazims.

Abbottabad: PML (Q) backed candidates won naib nazim seats in district and tehsil councils. Malik Juned Tanoli was elected district naib nazim, while Zulfiqar Abbasi was elected as Abbottabad tehsil naib nazim.

Mansehra: Mufti Kifayatullah was elected unopposed as district naib nazim after the rival candidates Sakhi Tanoli and Maulvi Nasir decided not to contest. Bashiruddin Tanoli was elected naib nazim of Mansehra tehsil by securing 33 votes.

Battagram: Niaz Mohammad Khan Tarand was elected district naib nazim by securing 13 votes, Nawabzada Abdul Ghafoor got only nine votes. Hameedullah was elected as naib nazim of Battagram tehsil. In Alai tehsil, Hamidullah Khan was elected as naib nazim.

Kohhistan: Malik Muqaddam Khan was elected as district naib nazim.

Lower Dir: Zahir Shah, a joint candidate of JI, PPP (S), PML (N) and ANP dissidents, was elected as naib nazim. He defeated Haji Inayatullah of ANP.

Upper Dir: Azizul Haq of JI won naib nazim slot by securing 20 votes against his opponent Muzaffar Khan of PML (Q) who bagged 18 votes.

Malakand protected area: Shakeel Ahmad of Malakand Mutahidda Mahaz was elected district naib nazim. He secured 20 votes against his opponent Amjad Ali Shah of PPP, who got 18 votes.

Swat: PML (Q) backed Siddiq Ahmad Khan was elected as the naib nazim by defeating Ibrahim Shah. Mr Siddiq polled 66 votes and his rival bagged 44 votes.

Southern Tank: PML (Q) backed Majeed Khan was elected as naib nazim. He defeated his rival Alamgir Khan of ANP by one vote.

Hangu: Gul Karim of PPP returned unopposed as district naib nazim. In tehsil Darsamand, the election was stopped after the supporters of the two candidates of PML(N) and PPP(S) clashed. A man sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital.

Karak: Akbar Badshah, a joined candidate of PML (Q), PTI, JUI (F) and ANP, was elected as district naib nazim by defeating Jan Alam of PPP and PPP(S).
