BAJAUR: Unidentified persons gunned down a Jamaat-i-Islami youth wing activist in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur tribal district on Tuesday.

Residents and police officials said that the incident occurred in the hilly Naraza area in the morning when unknown persons killed the youth, identified as Mohammad Raees Khan, 22.

The residents said that Raees Khan was the activist of JI youth wing and he was targeted with automatic rifles.

They said that he was critically wounded in the attack and died before reaching a hospital.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack nor has the family blamed any one for the murder immediately.

The JI local chapter has confirmed that Raees Khan was associated with its youth wing.

The party sources said that Mr Khan was not only the activist of JI youth wing, but also a volunteer of Al-Khidmat Foundation’s local chapter.

Police confirmed the incident and have recovered the vehicle used in the attack.

DSP Gulzar Khan told mediapersons here that they had registered the case and recovered a vehicle said to be used in the murder.

He hoped that the people responsible for the attack would be arrested.

The deceased was laid to rest in his native village late on Tuesday. Scores of people of the area, including political and social activists, attended his funeral prayer.
