MIRAMSHAH: A policeman sustained serious injuries when a remote-controlled bomb went off in Mirali town of North Waziristan tribal district on Sunday night.

Officials said police were patrolling the bazaar when the bomb exploded near their vehicle, injuring constable Rahim. He was shifted to hospital.

Army and police personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the area. They conducted a search operation, but no arrest was reportedly made.

Meanwhile, former MNA Mohammad Nazir Khan narrowly escaped when unidentified persons opened fire at his vehicle on Sunday night.

Police said the former parliamentarian along with his daughter was coming back to home from a hospital when armed men ambushed his vehicle.

The attackers managed to escape. The police registered a case.
