LAHORE: Ahmed Fareed of Multan won the eighth Quaid-i-Azam Amateur Golf Championship, which ended here at Lahore Gymkhana on Sunday.

The 18-year-old Ahmed prospered on the final day eliminating strong challenges from Danish Javed Khan and Saadullah Chaudry, winning the title with a two-day net score of 140, four under par.

On the final 18 holes, the championship took many twists and turns and while Ahmed remained a likely winner, his opponents like Mian Rashid, Ayaz Saleem, Hussain Hamid, Saadullah and Danish pursued victory with ample resoluteness.

But as the game proceeded Ahmed managed to tilt the contest in his favour and completed a clear victory with three strokes difference. He scored a birdie on the par 5, 16th hole followed by two regulation pars on the 17th and 18th holes.

The runner-up position went to Danish of Lahore Gymkhana, despite he was locked at the net aggregate of 143 with Saadullah. However, Danish was declared runner-up for playing better round of 69 on the final day.

In the gross section, the winner was Col Rustam Ali Chatta of Garrison Golf Club with two-round scores of 73 and 77 giving him a total of gross 150.
