ISLAMABAD: As many as 23 people were arrested during a crackdown launched against drug and liquor sellers in the capital, a police spokesman said.

“On the special orders of IGP Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed directed all zonal officers to accelerate their efforts to curb the menace of drugs and liquor,” he added.

Following these directions, SP Industrial Area Zone Zubair Ahmad Shaikh gave special task to SDPOs and SHOs. A police team under the supervision of SDPO Sabzi Mandi Ghulam Mohammad Baqir arrested three drug sellers and bootleggers, including a woman.

The police also recovered 200 bottles of liquor and 2,540 gram hashish, he said, adding the drugs was smuggled from Peshawar.

Furthermore, Aabpara police arrested two liquor sellers and recovered 70 litres of liquor while Secretariat police recovered 132 gram hashish from a drug dealer while the Kohsar police recovered a bottle of wine from another suspect. Likewise, the Bhara Kahu police arrested three persons and recovered two pistols with ammunition and two bottles of liquor. Banigala police recovered 36 bottles of liquor from three liquor sellers.

Similarly, the Karachi Company police arrested three culprits and recovered 130 litres of liquor while Tarnol police arrested three people and recovered two pistols and a bottle of liquor from them.

Moreover, the Ramna police recovered a motorbike from a man while Sihala and Loi Bher police arrested one person each and recovered a pistol and 230 gram hashish from them.
