BANNU: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday granted bail to MNAs Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar in the Kharqamar incident wherein a clash between security forces and activists of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement in May had left 13 people dead and several others injured.

The Bannu bench of the high court headed by Justice Nasir Mehfooz accepted bail petitions of the MNAs on the condition of furnishing two surety bonds of Rs1 million each. The court directed the two lawmakers to appear before a relevant police officer once a month.

Lawyers Abdul Lateef Afridi, Sangeen Khan and Tariq Afghan said the case against their clients was of political victimisation and based on mala fide intention.

They said there was no direct ocular or circumstantial evidence against them suggesting their connection, even remotely, with the commission of the offence as mentioned in the FIR and on the basis of record the case against them needed further probe.

Mr Afridi told Dawn that the court had yet to release the detailed order after which it would be known what conditions were attached with the bail.
