KARACHI: A teenage boy was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl within the remit of the Sharafi Goth police station.

Police said that the incident took place on the night of Aug 20 when the suspect had taken the child to a desolate place near the Malir River and subjected her to sexual assault.

Area SHO Fahad Hussain said that the suspect had threatened the girl that he would kill her if she informed her family.

After a gap of two days, the victim informed her neighbour who later told her mother about the incident.

On Thursday night, the family registered a case (FIR 266/2019) under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the 16-year-old suspect.

The girl was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre late on Thursday night and her medical examination was conducted on Friday at around 11am, said Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi.

He said that samples had been taken and sent for a chemical examination.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that police conducted raids and apprehended the suspect, who during initial probe ‘confessed’ to have assaulted the minor girl.

The police said that samples of the suspect had also been taken at the JPMC for investigation.

The SHO said that the suspect worked as a vendor in the area.
