LAHORE: Two men were killed while six others injured, one of them critically, after a truck ploughed into motorcycle-rickshaws and two cars that were waiting for opening of the railway level crossing near Model Town here on Tuesday.

Witnesses said they saw a speeding truck hitting the three-wheelers and cars. As a result, eight people got injured, they said adding that three of them were critical.

Locals rushed to the spot, overpowered the truck driver and called Rescue 1122 and the police.

A police official said it seemed the accident occurred due to failure of brakes of the truck.

The driver failed to find way to avoid accident due to closure of the railway crossing where many vehicles were lined up.

He confirmed the death of two men, one of them identified as Illyas (50). Those injured are Tahir, Shahbaz, Allah Ditta, Danish, Abbas and Ashraf, aged between 18 and 30 years.

Further investigation is under way.
