KARACHI: A woman was arrested and remanded in judicial custody for her alleged involvement in beating her daughter-in-law along with her son in Defence Housing Authority, it emerged on Friday.

The Sahil police registered a case (FIR 499/2019) against the woman and her son for attacking his wife in a Khyaban-i-Bukhari bungalow on Aug 11.

Sahil SHO Syeda Ghazala in investigating the matter.

According to the FIR, the woman complainant stated that she had been living with her mother in Defence Phase-VI after developing differences with her husband and mother-in-law.

Around seven to eight months ago, she got married but despite having a “love marriage”, her husband started mentally torturing her. She said that her mother-in-law also joined her son in beating her due to which she left their house and returned to her mother’s home. She said that on Aug 10, her husband came to her mother’s house and asked her to go for an outing.

She said that she went along with her husband who took her to his house. On the way home, he started beating her, asking her to take some money from her mother.

She said she told him that she would arrange the money in the morning.

But on Aug 11 at around 2pm, her husband and her mother-in-law attacked her “with intention to kill” her and severely beat her. The husband also made a video and posted it on social media.

Later, the woman’s mother rescued her and shifted her to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment, she stated in the FIR.

A senior police officer, who wished not to be named, told Dawn that her husband appeared to be an emotionally disturbed person and reportedly an addict.

He has switched off his cell phone and is apparently not traceable. Raids were being conducted for his arrest, said the police officer.
