LAHORE: Twenty-eight PML-N MPAs have written to the provincial home secretary seeking permission to inspect the Camp Jail on various complaints.

PML-N Punjab president MNA Rana Sanaullah is on judicial remand at the Camp Jail and he complained of providing contaminated drinking water by the jail authorities besides other poor facilities for the prisoners there.

In a letter to the Punjab government, PML-N MPA Yasin Sohal said 28 lawmakers of Lahore wanted to inspect the jail on July 17 under section 18 of the Punjab Privileges Act 1972. According to this Act, “Inspection of jails by members of provincial assembly of Punjab shall be authorised to inspect the jails falling in the district of his/her constituency within office hours.”

The letter further said that it had come to their knowledge that prisoners at the Camp Jail of Lahore did not have access to basic facilities such as clean drinking water. “Due to load shedding electricity supply is often suspended for long hours without any alternate arrangement. Basic medical facilities are also being denied to prisoners. Hence this visit is necessary and may please be facilitated as per under section 18 of the Punjab Privileges Act 1972,” the letter said.

RESOLUTION: The PML-N has submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly, demanding registeration of a case against Prime Minister Imran Khan and his aides under Article 6 for defaming Pakistan through a planted story in a foreign publication.

Filed by PML-N MPA Hina Pervaiz Butt, the resolution said Imran Khan, Naeemul Haq and Shahzad Akbar composed concocted story (published in The Mail, which accused former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif of embezzling money from foreign funds). It said it was an effort to defame both Shahbaz Sharif and the country. The resolution urged the apex court to constitute a commission to probe this matter to bring forth the facts.
