ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Ali Jehangir Siddiqui as ambassador-at-large for foreign investment.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, “Prime Minister of Pakistan has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, as ambassador-at-large for foreign investment in honorary capacity with effect from 13th June, 2019.”

The ambassador-at-large is given special duties and not appointed to any specific country. Last year, Mr Siddiqui served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States.

He was appointed by the PML-N government. But his appointment was severely criticised by the PTI and PPP. Later, when the PTI came to power, Mr Siddiqui was removed in December 2018.

He was succeeded by Dr Asad Majeed Khan. However, now Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Mr Siddiqui as ambassador-at-large.
