LAHORE: Sanda police on Sunday registered a case against more than 150 youngsters for doing wheelie and torturing a Dolphin Squad police personnel.

According to the FIR, a Dolphin Squad team received a call that some youngsters were doing wheelie near Sanda Road bus stop. The team reaching the spot found around 150 youngsters doing wheelie on their bikes after blocking the road.

As the policemen tried to disperse the youngsters, they started pelting the police with stones and allegedly took hostage a constable, Naveed. They attacked the constable with clubs, injuring him and tearing his uniform.

However, when more police reached there, the youngsters fled the scene leaving the constable there.

The police said the attackers also snatched the constable’s mobile phone, helmet and Rs16,000 cash.

Sanda police registered the case against three identified and around 150 unidentified youngsters.

Meanwhile, police’s operation wing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ashfaq Khan took notice of the incident and directed all SPs to take action against those doing wheelie in their respective jurisdictions.

He said that police should also maintain record of habitual wheelie doers.

Later, in a crackdown police arrested 45 people for doing wheelie and registered 27 cases against them in different areas of the city.

In this connection, 30 people were arrested in Civil Lines police division, eight in Iqbal Town and seven others in the Model Town division.
