BUNER: A fifth class student was killed and his two sisters were injured when lightning struck them in Koot Kwarsar village of Elum Ghar union council shortly before Iftar here the other day.

Residents said the student namely Abdul Ali, 15, was killed and his minor sisters, Janaat Bibi and Rabia, suffered serious burns when the lightning bolt hit them while they were waiting at a tandoor to get bread for Iftar.

They said the family could not manage to shift the injured girls to hospital as the house was located in a remote hilly area.

Early on Saturday, the locals shifted the injured girls on shoulders to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Pacha Kalay. The locals told mediapersons that the family was poor and demanded of the district administration to ensure free treatment of the injured girls, pay compensation to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, local MPA Riaz Khan assured the family that all possible assistance would be provided to them.
