KARACHI: A senior leader of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) escaped an attempt on his life in the Defence Housing Authority on Saturday night, according to police.

They said Mir Atiq Talpur, PSP’s Sindh general secretary, was travelling with his family in a car when armed men opened fire on his vehicle from a car on Khayaban-i-Shahbaz. Mr Talpur and members of his family remained unhurt in the attack. Some bullets hit the car’s bumper, they added.

The attackers managed to escape from the crime scene.

According to Darakshan SHO Arshad Janjua, Mr Talpur was going with his family for dinner in the same area.

He was allegedly travelling in an “unregistered” car.

Sources said that when one of the armed men showed Mr Talpur his pistol he got panicked. He reversed his car in panic and hit it with the armed men’s car.

Some police officers later visited Mr Talpur’s residence in order to seek his statement to register the FIR and ascertain identity and motive of the attackers.

Meanwhile, Sindh IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of the incident and sought an inquiry report from South SSP Pir Mohammed Shah, according to a police spokesperson.
