PESHAWAR: The TransPeshawar (TP) board of directors has approved selection of the vendor tasked with installation of Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) intelligence transport, fare and station management systems.

A statement issued here said that the vendor would be responsible for design, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of the four major project components for BRT including intelligent transport and fare systems.

It said that intelligent transportation system included systems for real-time passenger information, fleet scheduling and fleet management. The fare system includes electronic fare media, mobile app, automatic fare collection, electronic fare validation and settlement and clearance processing. The station management includes station and corridor passenger services, physical security, CCTV camera, general cleaning and light maintenance and landscaping.

The release said that the vendor selection for the entire length of the corridor was based on competitive process as per Asian Development Bank procurement rules. The TP board of directors approved the operator. It is a joint venture of M/s Beijing Santel Technology & Trading Corp, M/s LMK Resources Pakistan (Private) Limited and M/s Beijing E-Hualu Information Technology Co.

It said that the companies had an experience of managing similar global public transport systems. The joint venture will be on board for 10 years in line with the warranty of equipment.

The operator will be bound to hire locals, especially those who have been engaged in the public transport system currently operating in Peshawar. The contractor will also ensure employment opportunities to people with disabilities and other vulnerable populations in accordance with relevant laws of land. TransPeshawar is a company responsible for operation and maintenance of BRT and other declared projects in the province.
