MINGORA: The students of Government Postgraduate Girls College Saidu Sharif Swat here on Monday said that women must take equal part in the democratic process to put the country on the track of development.

They were speaking in a speech competition regarding importance of women participation in every sector of life for prosperous and developed Pakistan.

Deputy Commissioner Sqaib Raza Aslam was chief guest on the occasion. Principal Dr Sabiha Nazli, vice principal Nargis Ara, Prof Fouzia Wahab and Prof Tabassum Majeed were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner said that western nations became developed and civilised when their women started taking part in democratic process.

Girl students seek equal opportunities in every sector

“Men alone can never provide better system to their nation until their women contribute equally to it. Today only those nations, whose women take part in all sectors of life, are prosperous, happy and peaceful” he said.

The deputy commissioner announced Rs2 million for construction of overhead bridge to connect the two blocks of the college.

Principal Dr Sabiha Nazli said on the occasion that men and women had equal rights and importance and they should be given equal opportunities in every sector of life.

“Civilised nations not only give equal rights to women but provide them with equal opportunities in every sector of life,” she said. She added that it was collective responsibility of people to lead the country towards betterment.

She thanked the deputy commissioner for approval of funds and said that the overhead bridge was direly needed because the students had to go out of the college and cross the road to enter the BS block.

Khush Bakht, a student of BS English, who got first position in the competition, said that Islam gave equal rights and high respect to women but unfortunately majority of the Muslim countries were depriving them of their rights.

The students demanded of the government to provide better environment and equal opportunities to women in the country.

Zainab Ibrahim, a student of FSc, got second while BS student Andaleeb Akhtar got third position in the competition.

Prizes and shields were distributed among the position holders and the organisers of the competition.
