PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Sunday ruled out the possibility of an international commission probing the murder of Superintendent of Police Tahir Khan Dawar.

“Our own institutions and agencies have capability to conduct investigations into the case and take this case to its logical end,” said the chief minister, while talking to mediapersons at the residence of the martyred police officer here.

Tahir Dawar was kidnapped from Islamabad on Oct 26 and his tortured body was found in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

When asked that family of Tahir Dawar had rejected the formation of a joint investigation team to probe the murder and demanded that investigation into the murder should be conducted through international investigation bodies, he replied that investigations were in progress and final reports would be shared with the family.

“The government will satisfy the slain officer’s family,” he said, adding that option of investigations through an international commission was not under consideration. He said that a high-level JIT was probing the case.

Ahmaduddin Dawar, brother of the slain police officer, had told mediapersons on Saturday that the family wasn’t satisfied with the JIT’s formation. He had said that since his brother’s kidnapping and murder involved two countries, an international commission should be formed to investigate it.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Shaheen Mazhar also visited the residence of slain police officer to condole with the bereaved family.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also visited the house of the martyred officer and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
