ISLAMABAD: A man was killed and another injured after they were run over by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in F-10/3 on Saturday.
Police said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday behind Margalla Towers.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly ran over two labourers while they were asleep at a roadside hotel, and the hotel itself was also badly damaged.
The hotel staff was asleep when a black SUV appeared at around 2am. Police said the vehicle first ran over the two men, then drove into the hotel and flipped over.
They said both men were injured and taken to a hospital by their colleagues, where one of the victims was pronounced dead.
The deceased has been identified as Ajmal Wahab, police said. The injured, Baseer Khan, is being kept in hospital under the observation of doctors due to his critical condition.
Police took the driver and another passenger into custody and seized the vehicle.
Both women were taken to a police station.
Shalimar station house officer (SHO) said the driver of the vehicle had been held after the registration of a case against her.
She was produced before a court of law in the morning and sent to jail on judicial remand, he added.
The SHO said the suspect was living in F-11 and had been on her way home from a party.
A police official told Dawn the suspect was well-connected to influential figures in the capital.
A case had previously been registered against her for threatening an individual with dire consequences, but no action had been taken against her because of her connections, he said.
Rehman Wahab, the brother of the deceased, told Dawn they were Nowshera natives who had come to the capital to earn a better livelihood.
Wahab had been working at Khattak Hotel in F-10/3 and living there with four other people, he said, adding that everyone was asleep at the time of the accident so what had actually happened was not known.
He said he was woken up by “something”, possibly the sound of the collision or of the car turning over.
He then saw that the structure of the hotel was damaged, Mr Khan was under the overturned vehicle and Wahab was on the ground.
Mr Wahab said Mr Khan was retrieved from inside the vehicle and taken to the hospital while his brother died before reaching the hospital.
