KARAK: Workers of different political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, took to the streets here on Sunday against the failure of the district government to present the annual budget in the council, which, they alleged, badly hampered development activities in Karak.

The protesters asked district nazim Umer Daraz and naib nazim retired Major Sajjad Barakwal to preset and get approved the annual budget in the council in a month, or they would launch a protest movement.

Earlier, workers and members of civil society held a protest meeting chaired by PTI leader Kamran Khattak and also attended by village nazims.

The speakers expressed concern over the failure of the district government to present the budget, saying the district government had been practically dysfunctional for last three years.

They claimed that the budgets of fiscal years 2016-17 and 2017-018 were also not passed from the district council and funds amounting to Rs650 million were yet to be released.
