LAHORE: Girls showed a much better passing percentage than boys in the Secondary School Certificate (class-IX) annual examinations, 2018 announced by the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) here on Monday.

The result gazette issued by the BISE reveals that girls – whether regular or private students – surpassed boys in both groups – science and humanities.

In science group, total 62,267 girl students appeared in exams as regular candidates. The pass percentage of girls remained 70.14. But the pass percentage of boys (total 74,684 candidates) stood at 52.29.

Similarly in private candidate category, total 18,917 girls appeared in exams (science group). However, their pass percentage turned out 42.24. But the pass percentage of the boys (total 23,057 in the same category) stood at 31.05.

In humanities group, as many as 27,725 girls appeared in the examinations as regular candidates and attained 55.48 pass percentage. However, 16,440 boys appearing in this group as regular students got only 25.02 pass percentage. In the same group (private category), 16,817 girls appeared in the exams, getting 42.04 pass percentage, whereas 21pc boys (16,540 in total) got through.

Lahore BISE Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ismaeel said: “Of 258,447 candidates (both boys and girls), 129,719 got through the examination, posting 50.19 pass percentage.”

He said the results were also uploaded at the BISE website. In case of any issue, students can contact the BISE administration during office hours, he said.
