CHITRAL: Flash floods caused by torrential rain inundated more than 60 houses in Drosh area of Chitral in the wee hours on Saturday.

The houses were situated along the Chikdam, Kaldam and Azudam streams. A PTV building housing re-broadcasting booster was also submerged.

The flood also damaged standing maize crop and fruit orchards in Drosh town while no loss to life was reported as the people from the affected houses had already shifted to safe places because the administration had issued prior warning.

The road leading to Lowari tunnel remained closed for more than 10 hours after it was inundated by flood while water supply schemes in the affected villages were also washed away.

Meanwhile, a 12-year-old boy ended his life by hanging in his house in Zhang Bazaar area of Chitral town.

The police identified the boy as Ahmed Ayaz while the reason of suicide was yet to be known.
