Frequent power outages in Sohan

ISLAMABAD: Residents of Sohan are faced with incessant power outages during the nights.

These include Azhar Town, Awan Town, Malik Zubair Town, Nawab Town, Old Sohan and New Sohan.

Residents of Azhar Town said they have been facing power supply disruptions for a month now.

“Infants, elderly people, school going children and patients are suffering the most,” said Idrees Ahmed, a resident of Azhar Town.

“Last night the power went out at about 6pm and we lodged several complaints with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company but the power was only restored at about 2am,” said Naveed Ahmed, a resident of Awan Town.

Another resident, Rabia Bibi said the company takes hours to rectify a fault even if complaints are registered.

“Sometimes, there is no electricity in the mornings and it is routine now for there to be no power every second or third night,” she said.

“The power outages are exhausting. I fan my children with notebooks and newspapers the entire night,” she said.

A resident of Old Sohan, Habib Ahmed said the power disruptions are due to a medley of reasons including problems with electricity wires or transformers.

“The whole power infrastructure in our area need to be overhauled,” he said.

There are also frequent voltage fluctuations in the area due to which appliances such as fans, refrigerators and others are being damaged.
