KARACHI: A man hailing from Balochistan on Saturday died of Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), officials confirmed.

They said the victim was a 32-year-old man hailing from Balochistan’s Killa Abdullah district, who was brought to the JPMC a day earlier.

Officials in the Sindh health ministry said that overall it was the third death recorded in the provincial capital — two local residents and the latest one from the neighbouring province.

JPMC executive director Dr Seemin Jamali said the victim was identified as Abdullah, who was brought to the hospital’s emergency section a day earlier suffering from high-grade fever, and profuse bleeding from mouth and nose.

She said the patient was shifted to the isolation ward and his investigation report confirmed that he was infected with CCHF. “Abdullah was a meat seller, resident of Killa Abdullah,” she added.

She said he had contracted CCHF that was caused by a tick found on the skin of animals.
