PESHAWAR: The city police on Tuesday arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting a girl child.

An official at Mathra police station told Dawn that the suspect had been identified as Saddam Hussain, 22, a resident of Mathra. He said the man, who works at a bakery, took the minor to fields on Monday and raped her.

The official said the locals after getting suspicious also pursued the man and later police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

He said the girl had been sent to hospital for a medical report. He said the accused had been charged for rape under section 376 of PPC.
