Abbas, Amna romp to stunning title triumphs

KARACHI: Outsiders Abbas Zeb and Amna Fayyaz shocked top seeds to become new boys and girls under-19 champions in the seventh Rehana Nazar National Junior Squash Championship at RashidAbad, Tando Allahyar, on Wednesday.

Seventh seed Abbas, who sent second seed Zeeshan packing in the semi-final the other day, ended the event on high note routing top seed M. Uzair Rasheed 13-15, 11-9, 11-1, 11-1 to land the boys under-19 title.

Similarly, fourth seed Amna, who pulled off a major upset while getting the better of second seed Noorul Huda in the semis, kept her giant killing run by demolishing top seed Komal Khan straight 11-8, 11-9, 11-4 to claim girls under-19 title.

Harris Qasim (boys under-17) and Zaynab Khan (girls under-15) also shone by upsetting better ranked players.

Maj Gen Mohammad Ali, GOC 18 Div, who graced the finals, gave away the prizes.

Also present on the occasion among others were retired Air Cdre Shabbir Ahmed and Iqbal Samad.

Final results:

Boys under-19: Abbas Zeb (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) bt M. Uzair Rasheed (Punjab) 13-15, 11-9, 11-1, 11-1.

Boys under-17: M. Harris Qasim (Punjab) bt Saqib Iqbal (PAF) 11-9, 11-5, 11-3.

Boys under-15: Asadullah (PAF) bt Hammad Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 11-4, 11-7, 11-2.

Boys under-13: M. Ammad (PAF) bt Usman Nadeem (Punjab) 11-7, 11-4, 11-8.

Boys under-11: Anas Bukhari (Punjab) bt M. Hanif (PAF) 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.

Girls under-19: Amna Fayyaz (PIA) bt Komal Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 11-8, 11-9, 11-4.

Girls under-15: Zaynab Khan (Sindh) bt Nimra Aqeel (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 11-9, 11-4, 11-9.
