KARACHI: Fourteen policemen sustained injuries when a heavy trailer truck hit a police van on the main National Highway on Sunday morning, the Shah Latif Town police and hospital officials said.

The policemen were on their way from the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre in Razzakabad in the van to perform their duty when a trailer truck rammed into the police van, said SHO Amanullah Marwat.

As a result, 14 policemen received injuries. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Executive director of the JPMC Dr Seemin Jamali told Dawn that three policemen suffered head injuries. However, their condition was out of danger.

The police arrested the driver, Ghulam Khan, impounded the truck and registered a case against him under Section 247 (Shajjah: injury on head or face) and other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The wounded policemen were identified as Mohammed Bux, Sajid Ali, Abdul Latif, Mujahid, Saddam, Sajid Mirani, Abdul Rehman, Farhan Ali, Zahir Husain, Anees, Shoaib, Irfan Ali, Shujaat and Mashooq Ahmed, all aged between 22 and 30 years.
