Fog may thicken during next four days

LAHORE: Wednesday was a cloudy, foggy and chilly day in Lahore and elsewhere in the plains of Punjab, while more rain and snowfall over the hills further dropped temperatures.

Fog once again started blanketing central and southern Punjab, and the Met department said it was likely to persist and thicken during the next four days at least.

It remained cloudy throughout the day in Lahore. Fog in the morning and in the evening added to the chill, dropping the maximum temperature to 15 degrees C.

The minimum was 10 degrees C and the Met department expected it to drop during Wednesday night.

It said Kakul received 27mm rain, Malamjabba 21mm, Dir, Pattan 10mm, Kalam 8mm, Balakot, Peshawar, Saidu Sharif 7mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 21mm, Zero Point 15mm, Golra 13mm), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 18mm, Shamsabad 15mm), Murree 6mm, Muzaffarabad 13mm, Garidupatta 8mm, Rawalakot 3mm.

Malamjabba received 1ft snow, and both Kalam and Murree 5ft.

Kalat recorded -8 °C minimum temperature, Quetta -6, Dalbandin, Kalam and Parachinar -5°C.

More rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar divisions, Fata, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 24 hours.

Dense fog during night and the morning hours is also expected in Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Sukkur till Sunday, disrupting air, road and rail traffic.
