Senator Raja Zafarul Haq on Sunday said there was no harm in considering the option of taking resignations from federal ministers in an attempt to improve the overall tensed situation of the country in the wake of the sit-in by religious parties at Faizabad and other subsequent developments.

Talking to GeoNews, Haq said that the entire country has been facing a "hell-like" situation for several days, and there was no harm in accepting resignations from the federal ministers if it helped to bring normalcy in the country.

He, however, hinted that the PML-N leadership was facing internal pressure against the option of taking resignation from Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid.

"Some people fear that the protesters will increase their demands once resignations are accepted," he said.

Haq was chairing the committee, constituted by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, to fix the responsibility for inducing of a controversial amendment to the Khatm-i-Nabuwwat declaration for electoral candidates.

Earlier on Saturday, top leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), including its chief Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, sat down to weigh all options in dealing with the demands put forward by the protesting Tehreek-i-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) party, even the possibility of Zahid Hamid’s resignation.

The PML-N leaders mulled over whether the law minister should tender his resignation to pacify the protesters who have held the capital city hostage for over two weeks. “However, the party chief deferred the matter telling other participants to watch the situation closely before arriving at any decision,” Dawn quoted a party insider as saying.
