MARDAN: Exchange of fire between rival groups claimed lives of two persons and caused injuries to another in Landay locality of Rustam city in Mardan district here on Sunday.

Officials at the Rustam police station told reporters that two rival groups who were said to be relatives exchanged fire over a land dispute.

As a result of firing, two brothers identified as Israr Khan and Shaheenzaib, were killed instantly, while Mohammad Afzal received bullet injuries.

The officials said that the slain belonged to one group while the injured was from the other party.

Two separate FIRs were lodged into the case.

The first FIR was lodged by Jehanzaib Khan, brother of the victims, against Gul Rosh, Ghazan, Zareef, Sarand, Mohammad Afzal and Haris.

The second FIR was filed by injured Afzal against Israr Khan, Shaheenzaib, Jehanzaib Khan, Khanzaib and Shahzaib.

The officials of Rustam police claimed that they had arrested three accused in the case namely Mohammad Afzal, Jehanzaib and Shahzaib.

After lodging the cross FIRs, the police officials began making efforts to arrest the other accused.
