The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced another session in the red, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing 281 points to close at 40,663 on Wednesday.

The index shed 200 points in the first half hour of trading and hovered around the 40,700 mark for most of the session before hitting a day's low of 40,586 shortly before close.

Volumes remained low as only 90.4 million shares worth Rs6.8 billion were traded during the day. Only 140 of the 350 traded scrips advanced, while 188 declined and 22 remained unchanged.

The fertilisers and textile composite sectors dominated trading with 10.7m and 10.5m shares traded respectively. Around 9m shares of Engro corporation were traded in the day after MSCI removed Engro Corporation from the MSCI Pakistan Index on Tuesday.

Volumes were led by:

  1. Engro Corp: 9.0m shares traded [-7.40pc]

  2. Azgard Nine: 7.0m shares traded [-1.59pc]

  3. Unity Foods(R): 3.9m shares traded [-2.64pc]

  4. TRG Pak Ltd: 3.8m shares traded [-1.68pc]

  5. Sui North Gas: 3.4m shares traded [+1.26pc]
