RAWALPINDI: An inquiry committee, set up by the Punjab health minister, has proposed stern action against the medical superintendent (MS) and gynaecologist of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Gujar Khan for their negligence that led a woman’s death.

A senior official of the health department told Dawn that District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Fayyaz Butt, the inquiry committee head, had submitted his report to the provincial health minister, Khawaja Salman Raffique, in which it was recommended that strict departmental action should be taken against MS Dr Mohammad Pervaiz and gynaecologist Dr Sadaqat Ali.

“The committee has also requested the minister to order Punjab Health Care Commission to hold an inquiry against both doctors and award them punishment,” he said.

The pregnant woman was refused admission to the hospital when her family brought her there in critical condition.

The doctors did not provide her adequate treatment and referred her to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi, the report’s findings said. The official said the woman died before reaching the HFH. The relatives of the deceased also staged a protest against the negligence of the doctors.

When contacted, Dr Fayyaz Butt confirmed that he had found the MS and gynaecologist guilty in the inquiry. He said he had dispatched the report to the minister recommending immediate transfer of both doctors and an inquiry against them by the Punjab Health Care Commission for further departmental action.
