PESHAWAR: The dengue response unit set up at the provincial health department said on Monday that another patient suffering from the vector-borne disease had died, bringing the total tally to 27 across the province.

The victim was named Shah Alam of Tehkal, who was hospitalised on Sept 16. The statement said on Monday 1,498 dengue tests were conducted, of which, 242 people were diagnosed with suffering from the disease.

It said 71 patients were discharged from hospitals while 401 were under treatment.Meanwhile, the Hayatabad Medical Complex on Monday claimed to have arrested four persons of a family while trying to release mosquitoes on the premises of the hospital. They were later released.

A statement issued here said the health facility’s security caught four persons after observing them through CCTV cameras while releasing mosquitoes inside the hospital. They were identified as Liaqat, his son Safiullah, wife and daughter. The statement said the four belonged to Pishtakhara village on the outskirts of the city.

The statement quoted the hospital’s director Shahzad Akbar as saying that negative-minded people indulged in such activities to tarnish the health facility’s image.
