KARACHI: Two men were shot dead by robbers in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday.

A young man was shot dead by robbers on resistance in the presence of his younger brother in Nazimabad No. 5, Paposh Nagar police limits, in the evening.

Central SSP Pir Mohammed Shah told Dawn that Hamza Jamal, 22, a resident of Nazimabad, was riding a motorbike with his 12-year-old brother when three suspects intercepted him near a mosque in Nazimabad No. 5 and tried to snatch the bike from him. As he resisted, the suspects opened fire on him and fled without the vehicle.

He sustained a single bullet wound in the chest, which proved fatal. His brother remained safe. The victim’s body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The investigators collected a spent bullet casing fired from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene, said the SSP.

In the other incident, a man was shot dead by robbers on resistance in a Landhi locality in the evening, police said.

As Saleemuddin, 40, drew cash from an ATM in Babar Market, two suspects riding a motorcycle tried to snatch the cash from him at gunpoint, said Landhi SHO Rehmatullah Jan. As he put up resistance, the suspects opened fire on him and escaped with the cash.

He sustained a critical bullet wound and was taken to the JPMC, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital. He had received a single bullet injury in the chest.
