ISLAMABAD: The government on Sunday continued to insist that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had failed to provide the money trail for his London flat, alleging that the documents he presented before the Supreme Court were “forged and worthless”.

Speaking to reporters at the Press Information Department, ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Daniyal Aziz and Capital Administration and Development (CADD) Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry gave a Powerpoint presentation on the different documents submitted by Imran Khan and raised objections on each one.

“Imran Khan has nothing to show for his money trail, and, therefore, has only one answer; that he made money through the Kerry Packer World Series,” Mr Aziz said.

Daniyal Aziz claims govt can prove that PTI took money from ‘Jews, Hindus’

He claimed most of the documents submitted by Imran Khan were unsigned and did not carry the required details of his income or its sources.

“This is a perfect case of assets beyond known source of income. The total worth of Imran Khan’s flat in London was 117,000 pounds, while he only gave a money trail for 17,000 pounds; the remaining 100,000 pounds are missing,” he claimed.

The MNA accused the PTI chairman of using “delaying tactics” by not providing the required details of his income, assets and foreign funding to the courts.

Regarding the foreign funding case, Mr Aziz claimed the PTI chief had concealed that his party had received party funds from Jews and Hindus, adding that the ruling party would prove this in court. “If this is proven, the entire PTI can be wrapped up,” he said.

Mr Aziz also picked on Mr Khan’s decision to submit the contract of another cricketer, Mushtaq Ahmed, instead of his own.

Showing portions of Imran Khan’s money trail, Mr Aziz read out from the reply submitted to the SC: “[Imran Khan] played for Kerry Packer Series from 1977 to 1979 at $25,000 per year. At that point in time, the US dollar was equivalent to the British pound. Air fare, boarding, lodging, prize money and products endorsement were [in addition] to the earning. [Mr Khan] does not have any record of schedule of employment for himself. However, as an example, Mushtaq Ahmed’s contract is attached. It indicates what another lesser known cricketer was paid along with the perks.”

Mr Aziz claimed the PTI chief had changed his stance regarding the London property, and changed the year of purchase of the flat from 1983 to 1984.

He read another paragraph of Imran ‘s money trail which said: “In 1984 (not 1983), [Imran Khan] mortgaged a property, 165 Draycott Avenue, Chelsea, London.”

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that earlier, Mr Khan had concealed his offshore firm Niazi Services Limited, but had now admitted that he used it to purchase the flat.

Talking about the Panamagate hearings, he said the government would accept any decision of the Supreme Court and claimed that the JIT had not proved any wrongdoing on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s part.

One wonders what the rationale was for the foreign minister — a highly demanding, full-time job — being assigned various other political responsibilities.
