SUKKUR: The Sukkur chapter of the Sunni Action Committee (SAC) held a demonstration outside the local press club on Friday in protest against what it called “enforced disappearance” of three leaders by the Jacobabad police late on Thursday evening.

Leading the protesters, Sukkur SAC leaders Maulana Mohammed Ramzan Nomani, Syed Rasheed Ahmed Shah Bokhari, Hafiz Mohammed Zaman Rabbani, Maulana Ghulam Nabi Usmani, and Maulana Khalid Ulro told the media that a contingent of the police led by the Jacobabad SSP carried out raids on the houses of several SAC leaders during the night and picked up Hafiz Ghulam Shabbir Banglani, Hafiz Mohammed Musa Sarki and Qari Abdul Wahid Sarki.

They claimed that the religious leaders picked up by the police did not have any criminal record nor were they wanted by the police in any offence. They said the whereabouts of the victims of enforced disappearance were not known since they were taken away by the police.

The SAC leaders feared that the victims were being subjected to torture and other excesses at some undisclosed place.

They appealed to the Supreme Court, army chief, Sindh chief minister and top officials of the provincial police to look into the matter and ensure safe recovery of the missing clerics.

They also demanded disciplinary action against the SSP concerned.
