LAHORE: The two government teachers who allegedly pushed a girl student from the third floor of a school building in Shahdara appeared before police on Tuesday and recorded their statement after getting protective bail.

Shahdara Town police booked teachers Rehana Kausar and Bushra Tufail of the City District Government Girls High School, Kot Shahabdin, Shahdara under Section 324 (attempted murder).

Investigation officer Munir Ahmed told Dawn that the teachers denied pushing 14-year-old Fajjar Noor from the third floor of the school building. They said they had asked the girl to call her parents as they had to make a complaint about her.

“She might have jumped from the top floor because of this fear,” Ahmed quoted the teachers as having told police. “We are investigating the matter from all aspects.”

According to the girl’s family, the teachers pushed her after Fajjar refused to “clean the classroom on her turn”.

Fajjar is admitted to the Ghurki Hospital in Lahore with multiple fractures and broken spinal cord.

The government has suspended Lahore District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Ehsan Malik, Deputy DEO Tayyaba Butt and school headmistress Naghmana Irshad for allegedly concealing the incident. Both teachers had also been suspended.
