RAWALPINDI: The police have launched an investigation into the beating of a traffic police official by a station house officer, three men in police uniform and three others on the premises of the City Traffic Headquarters on Wednesday.

Though an FIR was registered, the accused have so far not been investigated or arrested.

Sub-inspector Rashid Mehmood, who is leading the investigation, on Sunday visited the crime scene and asked traffic authorities to provide him with CCTV footage of the incident.

Traffic warden Faiz Ahmed, who was deployed at the traffic headquarters, on Wednesday stopped a private car in which SHO Westridge Malik Asif Iqbal was travelling. He asked the SHO to park the car along the road as there were no vacant spaces in the office car parking. The SHO is said to have gotten annoyed and insisted he will not park outside.

According to Mr Ahmed, the SHO parked his car outside the main gate, walked in and complained to DSP Traffic Taimoor Khan who intervened and the SHO’s car was parked inside.

When the SHO came outside after some time, he called his subordinates, some of whom were in uniform, punched Mr Ahmed and tried to take him away in their car. Faiz Ahmed was rescued by traffic staff but he sustained injuries, including a fractured bone.

Taking notice of the incident, the regional police officer suspended SHO Westridge and ordered the registration of a case against those responsible.
