DUBLIN: Tom Latham hit a century as New Zealand crushed Ireland by 190 runs in the tri-series match at Malahide on Sunday.
The tourists amassed 344-6 after smashing 72 runs off the last four overs as Colin Munro hit 44 off just 15 balls, with three fours and four sixes, and Mitchell Santner finished 20 not out from nine balls as the Irish bowlers wilted.
Luke Ronchi ensured another fast start for the Black Caps with 35 from 31 balls but it was skipper Latham who held the innings together with his third ODI ton.
He scored 104 from 111 balls with nine fours and four sixes, although he enjoyed a reprieve on 89 when he was caught at third man, umpires ruling it was a no-ball.
After Latham departed at 212 for three in the 36th over, Ireland conceded only 33 in the next seven overs. But Munro’s arrival, when Ross Taylor was caught for 57, heralded a mayhem.
Peter Chase and Young were Ireland’s most successful bowlers but they both went for more than eight runs an over.
Ireland captain William Porterfield was the only home team batsman to bat with freedom with a 50-ball 48.
