LAHORE: A Lahore High Court full bench on Tuesday temporarily allowed functioning of Lahore sub-campus of the Bahauddin Zakaryia University, Multan, in order to save career of students.

However, the bench restrained the management of the sub-campus from making new admissions till final decision of the case.

Headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, the bench was hearing a number of petitions filed by students and others challenging illegality in the establishment of the BZU sub-campus in Lahore.

Higher Education Commission Chairman Mukhtar Ahmad, Higher Education Secretary Naseem Nawaz and BZU Lahore campus CEO Munir Bhatti also attended the hearing.

Counsel for the students told the bench that they had been facing immense problems as they were not able to continue their education at Multan (main campus) instead of Lahore. They said forcing the students of Lahore sub-campus to join the main campus was not a rationale.

Justice Naqvi observed that the court was fully conversant with the students’ problems and would not allow anyone to ruin their career.

A provincial law officer pointed out that the university syndicate had not closed the sub-campus but suspended its functioning.

At this, the bench directed the Lahore sub-campus management to conditionally resume its functioning and accommodate all the affected students. The bench also retrained the management from making fresh admissions.

The bench adjourned further hearing till April 6.
